Historically Unicorn Far East Limited is the changed named of Unicorn Bangladesh Limited while the mother company was Unicorn bv. the Netherlands. Unicorn bv. was founded by Mr. Victor Weijen Berg in the Netherlands in 1962 with mission of hunting overseas business. His initial selection was Asian countries, accordingly visited then East Pakistan and decided to import Jute and Jute Products. The country achieved victory of liberation and Bangladesh appeared as one of the countries in the world map on 16 December 1971 in place of then East Pakistan, whilst Victor awoke his earlier practice to visit Bangladesh since early 1972 to explore further business possibilities and at the first instance could notice crisis in aviation sector, particularly Biman Bangladesh Airlines though was named and inaugurated but without any aircraft. Victor was dynamic business personality with optimistic mindset and besides, he had enormous credentials and reputation among high officials of the Netherlands government and capitalizing so, he with the written approach from the highest authority of Bangladesh, could manage Dutch Grant in order to supply 5 nos. Fokker F-27 and 2 nos F-28 for the fleet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. At the same time and for local requirements he floated Unicron Bangladesh Limited as daughter Company of Unicorn bv. the Netherlands. Supplying above 7 nos. Fokker aircraft (5 nos. F-27 & 2 nos. F-28) was first business contract of Unicorn in Bangladesh and subsequently till 1988 Victor being foreigner and a professional businessman could acquire large number of projects from different public sectors in Bangladesh by way of his accrued credentials, reputation and integrity. All above projects were implemented on turnkey basis and that includes Supply, Installation, Commissioning, Testing and Handover. Most projects were implemented by different Dutch companies and quite some from other countries including USA and Unicorn acted as local associate for all projects to liaise between procuring entities and suppliers for implementation per schedule, to provide required local supports to experts of overseas, smooth functioning of payment schedules to the suppliers and etc.

Executed supply of gas treatment facilities at it’s wellhead including Supply, Installation, Testing, Commissioning and handover. In addition, there were many small projects value of which was less than USD 1 (one) million are not mentioned here. Unicorn Bangladesh Limited was re-named as Unicorn Far East Limited in 1988 at the desire of Victor Weijen Berg and at such situation some changes in operating management took place. Khandkar Mokarram Hossain who was the Managing Director of Bluebell Incorporation (an Engineering Procurement Company for installation of high pressure gas Line pipe) stepped out and joined Unicorn Far East Limited in 1988 as it’s Managing Director. However, after couple of months Victor Weijen Berg expired and Unicorn Far East Limited had to inherit total responsibilities to maintain contacts among overseas companies including Dutch as well as among customers and procuring entities in public sectors in Bangladesh. Therefore, the most procuring entities and projects executed by Unicorn Far East Limited till date ever since 1989 are as Follows;
Supplied huge number of platform weighing scales for country wide requirement and hopper scales for 5 Silos including installation commissioning.
TICI is one of the most prestigious projects of Unicorn both for Undergrad and Postgrad personnel. Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation and Ministry of Industries are the regulatory authority of TICI. It is located at Ghorashal in a vast area attached to Ghorashal Urea Fertiliser Plant. As per record TICI is one of the largest Training Institute of Asia established under Dutch Grant and Engineering Procurement Company was Gemco Industrial Development of the Netherlands while Unicorn was not only local associate but played active role in many directions jointly with Gemco and Netherlands Embassy and handed over to BCIC in 1999.
Bangladesh Betar is the National Broadcasting House and one of the most important organizations of the government among information and media sectors. At the same time they are valued customer of Unicorn. So far, ever since 1998 Unicorn has supplied 5 nos. high ranging AM (Amplitude Modulation) Transmitters for MW (Medium Wave) for 5 locations, 2 nos. AM SW (Short Wave) transmitters and more than 12 FM (Frequency Modulation) transmitter for 12 location. All those supply were on turnkey and includes Installation, Commissioning, Testing and handover. Unicorn is obeying responsibilities to attend after sales complaints and required spares supply in order to maintain function uninterrupted.
BTV is equally an important organization to the government with broadcasting network at home and abroad. Unicorn in 2010 arranged to supply their total News and Talk Studios on turnkey basis including Installation, Commissioning, Testing and handover and so far, has been providing services for uninterrupted program.
Both Dhaka and Chittagong City Corporation hold quite large mechanical and Electrical workshop with many types of machineries and equipment. Unicorn in 2003 installed new machineries and equipment in both City Corporations while the olds were replaced.
Unicorn was local associate to P&W USA since 2006 till 2016 to provide repair and maintenance support to Biman Bangladesh Airlines for their PW engines fitted with wide bodied Air bus aircraft. Nevertheless, in 2016 the top management of P&W decided to maintain direct contact with the customers all over the World and not through any local associate.
One of the large volumes of project of Unicorn is to supply 9 units of high pressure Natural Gas Compressor to BGFCL on turnkey basis including Supply, Installation, Commissioning, Testing and handover. This project was nourished by Unicorn since 2017 and could achieve the project in 2019 in favor of A G Equipment Company, Oklahoma-USA. The project value was USD 70 million and has been most successfully handed over to the procuring entity within 30 June 2021. Besides above, Khandkar Mokarram Hossain prior to join Unicorn Far East Limited founded Bluebell Incorporation in 1976 and being Managing Director led it’s functions as Engineering Procurement Contractor (EPC) till 1988. Bluebell as EPC was enlisted with 3 (three) government administered companies and they are; • Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited. • Bakhrabad Gas Systems Limited and • Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited. In about 12 years period Bluebell executed huge number of projects floated under above companies for Industrial Conversion, Low and High (up to 50 PSI & above 50 PSI) Pressure Gas line pipe construction ranging from ¾ " to 16" diameter.
